Jim Partridge makes furniture and functional woodwork with his partner Liz Walmsley that ranges from the small and domestic to monumental outdoor pieces. By the time the partnership began Jim had already established a reputation for his vessels and small-scale furniture. Much of his work is carved from blocks of green oak and yew, often scorched or bleached and polished to a lustrous black or white finish.
Examples of Partridge's work feature in many public collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Manchester Art Gallery. Other projects and commissions have included furniture, site-specific installation and architectural features for both private and public clients. The work has twice been shortlisted for the Jerwood Furniture prize. More recent projects include; a bridge in North Wales, Ridgeons seat in CB1 Cambridge, the Butterworth seat at Warwick University and the Carving Out Space exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre.
